Already this year there have been 18 confirmed child vehicular heatstroke deaths in the United States. Every year on average, 37 children die in hot cars in our country. Last year 43 young children died.

Amber Rollins with Kids and Cars dot org says it's important to look before you lock by checking the backseat every time you get to a destination. The best way to remember to do that is to put something you need when you get where you're going back there. Also, be sure to clue in anyone who may be watching your child in the summer months.

"Parents who are taking their children to daycare or a baby sitter you want to make a policy with them that if your child doesn't pull up as planned, that they would call you immediately," Ms. Rollins says.

It's another good idea to keep a stuffed animal in baby’s car seat and place it on the front passenger seat as a reminder when baby is in the back seat.
