Andover Fire and Police Departments host Police and Fire Festival

June 01, 2019 - 11:31 pm

The Andover Police Department and Fire Department hosted the Police and Fire Festival on Saturday, in an effort to meet together with folks in the local community.

Kids got to interact with police officers and fire fighters, sit in the fire trucks and police vehicles, and learn more about the jobs. A petting zoo, free food and live music added to the fun.

The festival is fun for kids, but the deeper purpose behind the event is the idea that, unfortunately, the first time that children have contact with the fire or police departments is when something scary is going on.  The fire and police departments want them to know that, behind the uniforms they wear, firefighters and police officers are people that care about them and want to help with their problems.

The event was free to all, and is sponsored mainly by The Andover Police and Fire Foundation, a local non-profit.
