Arkansas River, cleaned only weeks' ago is a disaster once more

Two weeks ago, hundreds of volunteers cleaned up trash in and along the Arkansas River, but the trash is already back. With Riverfest weeks away, some people are worried.

Trash can be seen along the banks and even floating in the middle of the river. According to the city, the problem is a mix of people who litter near Keeper of the Plains and also those who simply litter all across Wichita. That trash eventually makes its way into storm drains, and then in to the river.

People who help to clean up the litter says that the trash sends a message that we don't really care.

The riverfront is cleaned primarily by volunteers with the Wichita RiverWalk Cleanup Crew, and they could use some more help, especially this close to Riverfest. If you'd like to help in the effort, you can find information at the group's facebook page.
