A fire early Sunday morning in Topeka is being investigated as an arson.  The Topeka Fire Department says it began just before 1:30 a.m. in east Topeka just south of I-70. Fire crews were dispatched to the report of a fire in a structure and upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a vacant house.

Firefighters searched the structure and confirmed there were no occupants inside.  The fire was quickly extinguished, confining the damage to the original structure.

Topeka fire officials say the fire appeared to have been intentionally set at the back wooden deck.  No injuries were reported.
