ATV versus truck collision sends two to the hospital

Kansas State troopers say that two boys, were seriously hurt when their ATV collided with a truck on a Kansas road.

Emergency crews were called at around 6:18 p.m. Thursday to the wreck on Harvest Road near Longton in Elk County. The crash involved a 2012 John Deere Gator ATV and a 2012 Ford Truck.

Investigators determined that a 9-year-old boy was driving the Gator westbound on Harvest Road with a 6-year-old boy riding as a passenger. The Ford truck was eastbound on the same road.

Both vehicles crested a hill and the truck driver attempted to avoid a collision without success.

The boys were both taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with suspected serious injuries, Both of them are from Longton. The 36-year-old Neodesha man driving the truck had no apparent injuries.

Longton is about 90 miles southeast of Wichita.
