A big construction project is coming to Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita.

The pavement of the airport's two parallel runways will be repaired and replaced, along with updating the aging electrical system.  Thanks to changes in the earth's magnetic field, all three of the airport’s runways will be re-designated.

90% of the cost will be paid by a grant from the FAA.   Mayor Jeff Longwell says local tax payers won't have to foot the bill for the rest of the project's cost.

"It's outstanding that we're receiving $19.5 million from the federal government to bring back to our community and then the balance of that is all paid through fees generated at the airport is my understanding.  So there's no general taxes being spent on this," the Mayor stated.

The work should be complete by August 2021.
