WICHITA, Kan. (KNSS) – More bicyclists may soon be popping up around the City of Wichita. City Council members on Tuesday spoke in favor a bike share program.

Bike ICT is a bike share program that would allow people to check out a bicycle at a local station, ride it, and then return it to the same station or another one around town. Health ICT Project Manager Becky Tuttle is working with partners in the community to create Bike ICT.

The new program would add one more way to get around downtown. Tuttle is hopeful that it will also help to attract more people to the Wichita area.

A motion was passed Wednesday by city council members in favor of the project. The bike stations are expected to begin showing up in May. The goal is to have 20 different stations in the downtown area.

There will be an hourly, daily, and yearly fee to rent out a bicycle. A price has not yet been set for the program. All of the money collected will cycle back into the program.
