Sunday afternoon, several people got involved trying to subdue a suspect in the south part of Wichita.

A police officer in the area of 47th Street South & Broadway was contacted by the nearby Dillons grocery store, for help with a shoplifting suspect. As the suspect walked out of the store, the officer tried to take him into custody, but the suspect began fighting the officer.

During the altercation, the suspect tried to get control of the officer's holstered gun, but the officer maintained control of the firearm. The suspect also tried to hit the officer with large rocks.

The suspect was eventually subdued after bystanders and store employees helped the officer; the officer suffered an injury to his hand.

The 23-year-old suspect was booked into jail for aggravated robbery, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer.
