City and state road crews are ready for winter weather in Kansas

The Wichita Public Works Department and K-DOT crews have been watching the first winter storm of the season as it develops across Kansas.

City crews have been on twelve hour shift rotations to keep ahead of the expected winter conditions.

K-DOT spokesman Tom Hein says, state road crews are also working the long shifts so they can deploy when needed.  "It really depends on how it comes in," Hein said.

KSN News reports that city crews were able to pre-treat a select portion of elevated roads in the Wichita area on Tuesday, and are now at the ready with salt and sand as needed.
