City to research tiny home issue

It was a relatively light workload for the Wichita City Council on Tuesday.

Returning from the holiday, the council took little time adopting two resolutions for upcoming events.  Toward the end of the meeting, Councilman Pete Mitzner addressed the council saying, “We don't do this often but I'd like to consider a motion on an off agenda item."

Mitzner's motion was to get more information on tiny home development and annexation.  Even though legally everything was by the book, Mitzner expressed his concern that the public wanted to be notified on the annexation of land in southeast Wichita where these tiny homes are to be built.

He also wanted the city to look at other comparable cities in the region and see what they doing with respect to minimum home size.

The motion passed 7-0.  The Metropolitan Area Planning Department will now start the research.
