Council approves downtown baseball stadium contract

December 11, 2018 - 10:39 am

After tabling the issue last week, the Wichita City Council took up a vote on the design-build contract for the new downtown baseball stadium.

The council used the extra week to make minor corrections to the contract.  The city voted unanimously to select the team of JE Dunn-Eby.

The city will use a design-build approach to the project, shortening the schedule by overlapping the design and construction phases.  The city has used this approach before including the demolition of the old Airport terminal.

After the votes were counted, Mayor Jeff Longwell congratulated the winning team, and jokingly reminded them: "Remember, there are 24 hours in a day."

The Mayor was referring to the tight deadline the city faces.  Construction will start early next year and must be completed by mid-March 2020.
