If you plan to imbibe this weekend, be aware that local law enforcement will be looking for impaired drivers.

Wichita Police Officer Charlie Davidson says officers will briefly stop motorists in a check lane beginning at 10:30 PM Saturday until 2:30 AM Sunday.

Police will be looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as checking their drivers license, proof of insurance, and seatbelt compliance.

Drivers not suspected to be in violation should only expect a short delay.

Wichita Police reminds everyone that may have been overserved to have a designated driver or use a ride service such as Uber or a taxi.

The check lane is funded by the Impaired Driving Deterrent Program grant in collaboration with the Kansas Highway Patrol, sedgwick County Sheriff's office, EMS, and the Kansas DUI Victim Center.
