An early morning crash in south Wichita has claimed the life of one person.

It happened around 1:45, on Broadway between 31st Street South and MacArthur.

Wichita Police Sargent Chris Marceau gave this account of the crash.  "We believe that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck the curb and the concrete barrier on the side of the bridge, causing it to overturn.  We do believe that speed and alcohol is a factor," he said.

There were 2 occupants in the vehicle.  The driver, a 24-year-old, died at the scene.  The passenger, 20, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where they are expected to recover.

Broadway is still blocked in the area.

Police have not released the name of the victim.
