Fire breaks out in Andale

2 firefighters injured

UPDATE: 9:38 a.m.

Crews from Colwich, Mt. Hope, Valley Center, Bentley and the Newton fire departments assisted Sedgwick County FD #1 with a fire in Andale at St Joseph Catholic Church.  

The fire was first reported this morning around 5:45 a.m., with flames and smoke coming from the roof and attic. 

EMS transported two firefighters to Saint Francis Hospital with burns.  Both are reported in good condition but are still in the hospital.

An official cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time but a possible cause is a lightning strike, as thunderstorms were in the area.

This morning’s masses will be held at Andale High School.

The Wichita Fire Department is assisting Sedgwick County FD #1 with a fire in Andale at St Joseph Catholic Church.  

The fire was first reported after 5:30 a.m.  When the first crews arrived, fire was coming from the roof. For a short time, crews evacuated the structure and went into defensive mode.

Just before 7 a.m., EMS transported one firefighter to the hospital with burns to his hands.

After 7:30 a.m., fire crews report the fire continues throughout the attic.

There's no word on what started the blaze.
