The Wichita City Council voted Tuesday on the first bid package for the new downtown ball park.

This first step will address the sewer, storm water and waterlines to be constructed in and around the facility.

Excavation and grading will lower the ball field by five feet.  Concrete work for the infield walls, tunnels and dugouts will be done too.

Mayor Jeff Longwell made it clear that parking plans and the final design of the stadium are not yet set in stone. "Certainly we will continue to hold public meetings, and we welcome all of your suggestions as we work through the design-build process" he said.

The budget for this part of the project is just over $6.5 million, and the total budget for the facility is around $70 million.
