Fleeing driver charged with murder in deadly Wichita crash

A driver, attempting to get away from police, crashed, killing two people and injuring her passenger, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

During a court appearance Friday, Mia Collins, 24, was charged with nine counts, including aggravated battery, possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license.

She's accused of leading police on a chase last Sunday in a stolen BMW.  The car collided with a car and an SUV at Douglas and Broadway.

The crash killed, Maria Wood, 70, and her granddaughter, Rosmary McElroy, 12.  Wood's daughter, Jenny Wood, 36, suffered critical injuries.  The driver of the other SUV also suffered non-life threatening injuries.
