Flooding leads to evacuations in Manhattan and Pratt

September 03, 2018 - 1:40 pm

Flood waters have been on the rise in Manhattan after 5 to 9 inches of rain fell overnight, leading to evacuations.

Water has covered parking lots and invaded homes and apartments.

Westar Energy shut off power to those affected areas in Manhattan and the American Red Cross set up two evacuation centers.

K-State students that have been displaced due to the flooding and need assistance with housing, personal items or transportation are asked to call 785-395-7233.

Meanwhile, the Ninnescah River near Pratt overflowed its banks, forcing evacuations at the Pratt City Lake and a nearby apartment building. Six inches of rain fell in the Pratt area last night.

There are no reports of injuries.
