An out-of-state company has been contracted to break down and recycle the items collected. Hard drives will be destroyed to protect personal information.

Sedgwick County Environmental Project Manager Cindy Le said the events are an opportunity to get rid of old items collecting dust, but recycling and public safety are the main focuses. Le stressed that if electronics are not properly disposed of or tossed into a landfill, hazardous chemicals can make their way into the groundwater supply.

COVID-19 precautions will be followed by all.
