Gasoline prices in Kansas still comparatively low

Kansas has the nation's 11th lowest gas prices

There's a pleasant surprise at the gasoline pump for Kansans filling up, says Jennifer Haugh with Triple A.

“We are 11th least expensive in the nation, right behind Missouri,” said Haugh. “We are currently today at $2.65 across Kansas for an average and Topeka’s at $2.62, which is about 9 cents cheaper than it was a month ago. It’s definitely trending downward right now.”

Haugh says enjoy the prices now, because there's still a lot of uncertainty through the summer.

"Between inventories, demand, what OPEC is going to do, and other geopolitical things it could tip either way at this point.

Haugh says there's even more uncertainty because of the possibility of bad weather affecting oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.  Wichita's average gasoline price as of Thursday morning was $2.61 a gallon.
