WICHITA, Kan. (KNSS) - Police Chief Gordon Ramsay is concerned about a growing crime trend in the city during recent months: guns being stolen out of vehicles.

In 2016, there were 193 cases of guns stolen from vehicles, up nearly 28% from the year before.

The upward trend continues -- there have been almost 80 more guns stolen from cars in Wichita so far this year.

Chief Ramsay says, "This is a preventable crime."

Police urge citizens to remove all personal property from cars when those vehicles are not occupied.
