There was a highway-robbery attempt in the west part of Wichita.

Late Sunday afternoon, a 71-year-old woman was walking alongside her husband who was in a motorized scooter, south of Central & Zoo Boulevard. A suspect ran up, trying to remove the purse from her shoulder.

The woman fought with the suspect; a person driving by saw what was happening, honked the horn of the car, and informed the suspect that police were going to be notified.

The suspect ran away, but police soon arrived in the area, encountering the suspect in a yard in the 600 block of N. Sheridan. As police struggled with the suspect, a 66-year-old man living at the house came out, helping police subdue the suspect.

The suspect, a 47-year-old man, was booked into jail for attempted robbery, and resisting arrest.
