WICHITA, Kan. (KNSS) - A man suffered serious burns as he attempted to put out a fire at his home in southwest Wichita, with a garden hose.  It happened just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on west Jewell, near Maize Rd.

Dean Nestor, 27, says he was at home when the fire began on his back deck and patio area.  He suffered burns to his face, hands and arms before fire crews arrive.  He was hospitalized in serious condition.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, but officials speculate it may have been due to careless smoking or an electrical problem with a hot tub.

Damage was estimated at $200,000.
