Honor flights return to Wichita

With the return of spring comes the return of honor flights, with Kansas veterans getting to go to Washington D.C. to see war memorials.

More than 30 veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam who had made the trip arrived at Eisenhower airport on Friday to a hero's welcome.

Family and by strangers greeted them with open arms, and for some of the veterans, it was a bit overwhelming. Jim Crossman, a Vientam veteran said that it was a welcome home they never got back in the sixties.

Many of the veterans were moved by the presentations in D.C. Roman Hiszcznsky, a Vietnam Vet and a Holocaust survivor, said that the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was special to him, because the pictures of Holocaust survivors were Ukrainian, like him.

Other veterans say the welcome they received in Wichita was the best part of the trip.
