Kansas Legislature taking another look at sports gambling

Kansas lawmakers are taking another swing at legalizing sports gambling. Senators heard testimony Wednesday on a new proposal that would allow casinos to offer sports betting either in-person or through online apps.

Jeff Morris is with Penn National Gaming, which runs the Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas.  He supports the bill because he says Kansas is currently missing out.

“If you don’t offer online sports wagering, at the end of the day, those players are still going to be wagering illegally and you miss out on a significant piece of sports betting across the country,” said Morris.

With the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Kansans can only bet in other states or illegally online. Benefiting only illegal gambling operations or other states.  Under the proposed plan, the state would receive up to 10% of the revenue from sports gambling.
