Kansas Poor People's Campaign Rally held in Wichita

August 26, 2018 - 2:44 pm

More than twenty people showed up to the Kansas Poor People's Campaign rally, held on Saturday at McAdams Park. The goal of the campaign is to end systemic issues affecting impoverished people.

The "Stand Up - Speak Out" event aimed to build power in poor communities and also to register and engage voters. The speakers at the event shared personal stories that dealt with poverty and discrimination. They believe that solutions to their problems do not always involve politics; sometimes, a moral revival can begin with something small, such as helping a neighbor.

The event was held in front of McAdam's pool in an effort to show how they believe that systemic racism has been operating  at the city level with the future closing of the neighborhood pool.
