Kansas Supreme Court dismisses judges' lawsuit over funding
Categories:

Kansas' top court has dismissed a lawsuit over funding for the state's court system filed by six trial-court judges against the Republican-controlled Legislature. The state Supreme Court said in a short order Wednesday signed by Chief Justice Marla Luckert that it is “confident” that allegations of under-funding of the court system are best handled through “cooperation” with the state's legislative and executive branches.

The Supreme Court added that it must make a good-faith effort not to encroach on the Legislature's power over budget matters. The lawsuit threatened to complicate an often-tense relationship between the courts and the Legislature.
