Lawsuit: Kansas mayor deleted posts panning virus response

May 25, 2020 - 6:10 pm

A woman is claiming in a lawsuit that the mayor of a western Kansas town violated free speech rights by removing social media criticism of how the town has responded to the coronavirus.

Tracy Chambless says in a lawsuit against Scott City and Mayor Everett Green that the mayor removed criticisms from his Facebook page and another local news page that he controlled.

The lawsuit also alleges that the town has barred citizens from participating in City Council meetings since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Green has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
