A man that 58-year-old Michael Ellis had hired to help him with his home renovation business allegeldy struck him with a hatchet eight times!

The man worked on Thursday, then came back that evening and attacked Ellis with the hatchet, according to Joshua Langworthy, Ellis' nephew.

The job site was on North Harding where several workers are remodeling a home.

Police said in the early morning hours of Friday, June 21st, Ellis was checked into the emergency room at Wesley Medical Center with multiple deep cuts to his face. After six hours of surgery, he is missing his fingertips and also has many plates in his face.

Langworthy said his uncle was trying to help the suspect prior to the attack by offering him a job.

Wichita police released a statement to KSN about the investigation that said, in part, that the incident was not random. Investigators have developed a suspect in the case and are working to locate and speak with the suspect.

Ellis remains in the hospital, where he will eventually need to undergo physical therapy.
