Sedgwick County Commissioners said goodbye to David Spears, who is retiring after 38 years with the county as Director of Public Works.

Mr. Spears got emotional talking about his staff and their accomplishments.

“I’m most proud of the public works employees. They’re the ones who made this happen, they’re dedicated people, they’re great technicians, great craftsmen, and do unbelievable things,” he said.

Each commissioner publicly thanked Mr. Spears. Just a few of the projects that have his signature on it include the K-96 Bypass in northeast Wichita, the ongoing North Junction project and numerous bridges and roadways in the county.

Mr. Spears and his wife plan to move to Lawrence.
