Late Wednesday morning in the southeast part of Wichita, 30-year-old Bretodd Williams was walking down the street in the 1700 block of S. Elpyco. Another man approached him, they had minimal contact, then the suspect fired multiple gunshots, killing Williams in the street.

Police Lt. Todd Ojile says a pair of Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies arriving in the area spotted a suspicious man near Oliver & Harry; they observed the man as he went into the Quik Trip at Oliver & Harry. The deputies went inside the store as well, and spotted the man wearing different clothing leaving the store; the deputies found the man's original clothing in one of the restrooms.

Wichita police arrested that 31-year-old man, who was booked into jail on a charge of suspected first-degree murder and for possession of a firearm by a felon. During a search of the area, a police dog located a gun, which was submitted as evidence.

Both the victim and the suspect are gang-members.
