Wichita Police have arrested a 59-year-old man on a charge of criminal threat against Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple.  Friday, police said they were alerted to threatening statements on social media, directed toward Mayor Whipple by Meredith Dowty of Wichita, a retired firefighter. Mayor Whipple tells KNSS News the suspect was angry about the way the COVID 19 pandemic is being handled, and wanted the mayor's address. The text messages reportedly contained threats to kidnap and kill the mayor. Police are taking the threat seriously. The investigation is ongoing, and it will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

The mayor commented during Mondays with the Mayor, on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
