Occupational accident kills Wichita worker

A 46 year-old man was killed in an occupational accident in North Wichita Tuesday evening.

Police spokesman Charlie Davidson says first responders were called at about 6:10 PM to the 2600 block of North New York on the report of a man under a train.

When rescuers arrived, they found the man who had received critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was working with a crew moving train cars at the Union Pacific rail yard when he was struck by a moving rail car.

It is not known if he was an employee of the railroad or a contractor.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident. 

The man's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
