A Wichita man has been sentenced following the beating death of his six-month old son.

According to a press release from District Attorney Marc Bennett's office, District Judge Bruce Brown sentenced 29 year-old Dorl Gwyn to 467 months in prison. He pled guilty to second degree murder last July.

In April of 2018, Jazz Gwyn's mother took him to an emergency room because he had stopped breathing. He died shortly after arrival.

An autopsy revealed multiple injuries including a laceration to his heart, two healing rib fractures, blood in his chest and abdominal cavities, bruises and head injuries.

Gwyn told detectives he thought it was okay to shadowbox with the boy to make him tough.

After his prison term, Gwyn must serve 36 months of post release and register as a violent offender.
