A man was shot and killed in the south part of Wichita.

Police Lt. Todd Ojile says it happened late Tuesday afternoon, in a neighborhood near the 2900 block of S. Hillside.

A man called 911 dispatchers with bits of information, telling them he'd witnessed a shooting at a house on S. Sayles Street, and that he would wait for police in the 2600 block of S. Hydraulic. Police went to the address on Hydraulic, but man who called 911 was not there.

At the address on Sayles, police found a man dead from a gunshot wound inside the residence. Investigators believe several people were inside the house at the time of the shooting, but they fled after the victim the shot; officers and neighbors report this as a "very active" house in the 2900 block of S. Sayles, with people coming and going from the house at all times of the day and night.

Police say drugs were known to be frequent at that location, but investigators do not know what led to the shooting.

The victim has been identified 40-year-old Emmitt Olson.

This is Wichita 15th homicide in 15 weeks this year.
