Matthew Colborn, the man responsible for producing a false political attack ad against Mayor Brandon Whipple, has been released from the lawsuit surrounding it.

As part of the agreement, Colborn turned over relevant case material.  That material included a secretly recorded audio file that captured a meeting between State Representative Michael Capps, Sedgwick County Commissioner Michael O’Donnell, Wichita City Council member James Clendenin and Colborn.

In the audio, the men discuss an upcoming appearance by Capps on KNSS' The John Whitmer Show.  The men talk about how Capps should respond to questions from John Whitmer about the attack ad against then candidate Brandon Whipple.

Whitmer told KNSS News, "Clearly Michael Capps was worried about doing the two interviews because he needed that much time to prep for it.  And we did ask tough questions during those interviews. Clearly he was worried about it." Whitmer also said "The sad part in all of this is that the underlying allegations about Brandon Whipple have been lost. And the fact that Mayor Whipple is using the courts, he's weaponizing the courts, to influence the outcome of an election has been lost in all of this."

The John Whitmer Show can be heard Sunday nights at 7 on KNSS.
