All Medicare beneficiaries, including over a half-million Kansans, will be getting new cards in the next few weeks. Julie Brookhart with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says the new cards will have new identification numbers, replacing Social Security numbers. It should reduce the risk of identity theft.

"The cards are free, you don't have to pay for them," said Brookhart.  "Medicare is never going to call you for money or for personal information because if we're working with you on an issue we have your medicare ID number."

The new cards will arrive in the mail by the end of July.
