Authorities say a fleeing driver has caused a downtown-Wichita crash that killed a woman and a girl. A 24-year-old woman sped off Sunday afternoon in a stolen B-M-W sport utility vehicle with police in pursuit.

Police officer Kevin Wheeler said in a statement that she then collided with a car and another S-U-V at Douglas and Broadway. Police say the 70-year-old Maria Wood of Wichita was behind the wheel of the car when she was killed. 12-year-old Rosemary MeLroy of Wichita was thrown from the vehicle. The crash critically injured another passenger in the car and seriously injured the driver of the S-U-V that was hit. The fleeing motorist and her passenger also were taken to a hospital.
