Police are investigating a shooting in the Hilltop neighborhood in the southeast part of Wichita, which left a man dead.

It happened at 4:00 a.m. Friday, west of Lincoln & Oliver. Investigators believe the victim, 40-year-old Charles Cunningham of Wichita, along with his 42-year-old brother, went to a home in the 4000 block of E. Bayley, due to an ongoing dispute.  At the residence, Cunningham physically attacked 26-year-old Dalton Patterson.  Patterson fired a shot that struck Cunningham in his body.  He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

On Friday, Wichita Police arrested Patterson on a charge of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell, stemming from that shooting.

Police say the two knew each other.  Investigators recovered multiple guns and drugs, along with several shell casings at the scene.

This case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
