A man was arrested after he got into a wreck in the north part of Wichita.

At about 1:30 a.m. Friday, police responded to the report of a suspicious character near the McDonald's at 53rd North & Meridian; the suspect was driving a white Chevy Silverado. As officers arrived, they saw the man leave; they tried to pull him over, but he drove off.

As the pursuit continued on 53rd Street North, the Silverado went left of the center line, hitting a tan Chevy Suburban occupied by a 30-year-old woman and an eight-year-old boy. The woman and the child were hospitalized, and are expected to recover from their injuries.

The driver tried to flee, but was soon apprehended. The 36-year-old man was booked into jail for a felony charge of eluding police, drunk-driving, two counts of DUI/aggravated battery, and two counts for hit-&-run.
