TOPEKA, Kan. (KNSS) —Skepticism from both sides of the Kansas House & Senate may be the downfall of a plan to build a new prison in Lansing Kansas to replace Leavenworth which is the state's largest & oldest prison.

Gov. Sam Brownback's administration expects that by weeks end, they will  have a list of qualified companies interested in building that new prison.

With Kansas strapped for cash and the House and Senate very hesitant to throw money around, one alternative option is to have the state lease the building from the builder for up to forty years before purchasing it.
