A pawn shop in Newton is the focus of a lawsuit related to the sale of firearms used in a mass shooting in Hesston in 2016.

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Harvey County.  The shooter at the Excel Industries plant in Hesston, identified as Cedric Ford, was a convicted felon and was barred from owing the semi-automatic rifle and .40 caliber handgun that was used in the shooting that killed three and wounded fourteen others.

Ford was shot and killed during the rampage.  He allegedly coerced his ex-girlfriend into giving him the weapons.  The Wichita Eagle reports the lawsuit charges that the store, A Pawn Shop, should have known that the woman was a straw purchaser when she bought the weapons.
