Next phase of Wichita ballpark construction approved

April 16, 2019 - 12:13 pm

The Wichita City council discussed the latest amendment to fund the continued construction of the downtown multi-sport stadium.

Phase 3 will cover expenses such as masonry, roofing and drywall just to name a few.

Mayor Jeff Longwell was very pleased with the efforts of the construction team thus far.

"We appreciate certainly how fast you've been able to do it and not always the best of weather," he said.

The cost for phase 3 comes in at $11.2 million.  The costs to date are now $49.9 million, a little over $1 million under budget.  The stadium is set to be completed next March.

The council also approved realignment of McLean Boulevard between Maple and Douglas.  Most of the road will be reduced to 2 lanes.
