The Wichita City Council on Tuesday held an extensive discussion on a possible new fireworks ordinance -- and took public comment from residents -- but council-members took no action.

Mayor Jeff Longwell says the matter calls for more evaluation from staff, saying: "We know there are folks that want to be celebrating; we'll see if we can accomodate them and still do a better job of enforcing. Because what we're doing today isn't working; what we're doing today is not working. So we've got to change something."

Staff-members will look at the matter further, and present the council with new proposals sometime early next year.
