No one hurt after metal pole smashes through car's windshield on I-135

On Saturday afternoon, the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to an unusual crash scene from which there's a lesson to learn.

On the call, a man was driving south on Interstate 135 at 53rd Street North in Park City when a metal pole went flying out of the back of a pickup in front of him and smashed through his car's windshield.

The man wasn't hurt, but if a passenger had been with him, that person could well be dead.

KHP Trooper Chad Crittenden has shared a link to a state statute that explains the rules about securing loads in vehicles and explains the potential liability of a driver who may cause a crash without even realizing it.
