Wichita firefighters battled a fire at a home in southwest Wichita Saturday morning. Just before 11 AM, fire crews were called to a residence in the 500 block of West Shirk, near Harry and McLean Boulevard.

Smoke was seen coming from the front of the home when fire crews arrived. The source of the fire was found and quickly extinguished. Battalion Chief Sid Newby said no one was home at the time, but the amount of smoke caused by the fire could have been deadly.

Several puppies were found and rescued from the home. Chief Newby reports they are doing just fine. Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze. No damage estimates have been given.
