Officer involved fatal shooting in southwest Wichita

(UPDATE):  A Wichita police officer fatally shot a man in southwest Wichita.  It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of South McCormick.   Deputy Chief Troy Livingston said a caller stated a mother and son got into an argument and, a father was shot in the head. Livingston said the caller said the father died and two hostages were being held.

However, when police arrived, a man, 28, came to the front door of the residence. Livingston said an officer fired his service weapon. The man was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

When police entered the home, they did not find a deceased man inside.  Livingston says they believe they were given some misinformation on the call,” . He said there were three or four other people inside the house and they were not injured.

Wichita police are continuing their investigation.


Wichita Police are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital. It happened just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of W. McCormick, near Seneca. 

Police have blocked of streets in the area as they investigate further.  Additional information was not immediately available.
