Officer-involved shooting justified

The Reno County District Attorney has ruled that an officer-involved shooting that happened on June 20 in Hutchinson as justified.

Police shot Brendan Jones in the leg during the standoff.

District Attorney Keith Shroeder says officers knew that the 21-year old Jones had a long record of criminal activity which including resistance to police.

Jones advised he would peacefully surrender if he was allowed to speak to his mother. His mother arrived on scene and spoke to Jones over the phone. Then, Jones opened the door, raised a handgun and fired multiple shots at officers.

Police returned fire.

Jones eventually crawled out of the home unarmed and was taken to a hospital.
