Officials:  Wichita wastewater data 'fudged'

July 17, 2019 - 5:58 pm

The Wichita Public Works Department reports finding an error on test results of sewage treatment plant wastewater that gets dumped into the Arkansas River.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Director Alan King says that the city caught the error during a spot check and immediately reported it to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.   He says the test results falsely reported how much organic and inorganic substance is floating in the water.

The cities permits shouldn't be affected, and there was never any danger to the public. Additional reports show that the city likely stayed within an acceptable range.

The employee responsible for the report has since resigned.
