One person is dead after 7 vehicles were involved in an accident on I-35 in Johnson County.  According to the Kansas Highway Patrol it happened south of 67th Street in Merriam, Kan. around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A semi was disabled in a northbound lane of traffic and was struck by a van.  The van was struck by a car.  In an effort to avoid the crash an SUV swerved and was struck by another car, then sideswiped another before coming to a rest.

The driver of the Van, 31-year-old Jesse Miller of Edgerton, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The KHP reports he was not wearing a seat belt.  3 other people were taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  Five others including the driver of the semi-truck were uninjured.
