There continues to be a large police presence in southwest Wichita this morning.

Wichita Police say it all started around 1:20 a.m., in the 1900 block of south Glenn.  Officers responded to calls of a man shooting shots outside his residence.  When they arrived on the scene, officers encountered a man armed with a handgun.

The man ran out onto Glenn and toward officers, who gave verbal commands to the man.  He then turned and ran in the other direction on Glenn.  Officers encountered the man again near Dora and Glenn and again gave the man verbal instructions.

In an early morning briefing, Officer Charley Davidson from WPD tells KNSS News:

"The male pointed the handgun at officers, and Wichita Police Department officers and Sedgwick County sheriff deputies fired at the male. This occurred at 1:53 this morning. This male, 49 year-old male was pronounced deceased on the scene."

Police say two other homes were struck with gunfire. No other injuries were reported. The area will be closed off for a while as police continue their investigation.
